c speed !

Original plan for today was to go ride to and around Fujisan and back.  A message from Hiroshi saying my Sirius Ti-1's "image change" was completed made me change my mind.  Spent a very nice time at c speed talking with Hiroshi who made some minor adjustments to position the grips a bit higher the way I like them.  Overall, I am extremely happy with the new looks (gold chain, yeah)!  Most of all, the new ceramic BB was a "me-kara-uroko" experience for me.  What a difference...what a smoothness!!!  The extra-short crankarms (165) also turned out very sweet!  I'm sure they will save my knees allowing me to cycle a bit longer into old age!  Thanks a lot Hiroshi!!

ending adulterous kotei affair

It took me some while to realize there is no zen in kotei - at least not for me!  Tomorrow, I'm visiting c speed to let go of the beautiful hand-built-by-Hiroshi rear wheel (Ambrosio Excellight) featuring the revolutionary and highly acclaimed Eccentric Eno hub produced in the USA by White Industries.  This hub was invented to convert standard road races with vertical dropouts into kotei/fixies and ingeniuously solves the problem of how to tension the chain.  My own Eccentric Eno is of the flip/flop design and has a fixed 16T cog on one side and a free 16T cog on the other side which I never even bothered to try, infatuated as I was by the simple beauty and depth of "kotei" so many people are raving about.

Hiroshi-san will be building up my Sirius Ti-1 with a new Ultegra compact crankset and shifters and the Dura-Ace derailleurs from the original groupset.  By way of experiment, I asked him to order 165mm crank arms.  I am curious and hoping this switch to shorter crank arms will help improve my spinning and reduce the stress on my weakening knees.  Who knows, I might even enter this year's TOITO on this great titanium bike about to be reborn!

Lazy weekend

Spent a lazy weekend meaning not much time in the saddle... Yesterday I cycled to c speed to catch up on recent developments at Hiroshi's shop. Hiroshi sounded very enthusiastic about a batch of hi-tech DUELL steel bikes arriving soon from the Netherlands. Through the mediation of MOB, c speed acquired the exclusive dealership rights for this part of Japan. These DUELL bikes look extremely sharp! Hiroshi kindly fine-tuned the Fulcrum wheels on my Super Six. This morning, I slept till late again and fixed myself a huge bowl of oatmeal (tried for the first time after reading David L's recommendation on the PE blog)...boiling the grains with water first and then with milk adding raisins, cinnamon, nuts. I took the porridge off the fire and then mixed in half a banana, muesli and a little yoghurt...great taste and very filling!! Following breakfast, I went for my standard Nenogongen Loop and got back home by 13:30....not feeling like eating at all!

Kawasaki PISTA !!

Thanks to Hiroshi-san's many years of experience with his club and his far-reaching connnections, Ludwig & I were able to enjoy a brand-new experience...cycling in circles on a real KEIRIN velodrome! Notice the red spot on the map...I circled for a good two hours without stopping once.

Due to some mix-up on my part (sorry Ludwig!), we got to the "Kawasaki Keirinjou" one hour too early!

Pros-in-the-making were doing their rounds....

Final spurt....

Look at them futomomos! Hiroshi told me these guys cannot buy a decent pair of jeans...no wonder!

Ludwig doing his little time trial with a huge crowd cheering him on!

Ludwig shooting out of the curve at max speed !
